RE:UNION - An instance of two or more people coming together again after a period of separation.

Well, we can’t write about a reunion without talking about the Spice Girls can we?“if you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends, make it last forever, friendship never ends”

Its a lyric that anyone around in the 90’s can recite by heart…. yep that includes me!

The line sung by the Spice Girls on their single Wannabe, summed up the bands self styled “Girl Power” mantra- a brand of female empowerment that made them a pop culture sensation.

Although a girl power ethos was shifting in the underground culture through things like the riot girl feminist punk rock act, it was the Spice Girls who brought this spirit to the mainstream and made it accessible .

The Spice Girls flew the flag for sisterhood, female empowerment and feisty independence, showing millions of women and girls that they could do anything they wanted.

But aside from feminism, for many younger fans it was more straightforward. The Spice Girls inspired confidence. Friends as a group, but each an individual.

It was a simple take on the movement, but the message was clear: female solidarity and self belief are powerful forces and when two come together, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. But now, more than 20 years later, girl power is more necessary than ever. Dual Lipa and Little Mix echo these vibes, its music being about making mistakes and learning from them and having friends to help you along the way. At the heart of this success is true friendship. We increase our self worth not by being what others want us to be, but by being our true selves.

Girl Power comes from friends coming together and shouting their message.

It is time for us all to get connected, reach out and lift each other up. Remember to connect and acknowledge the importance of people you meet and if you have lost touch with someone important in your life.. its never too late, reach out and reconnect, they could spice up your life.
